My Life In Italy on #Coronavirus Lockdown

by Louisa Klein

Yeah, I’m alive, I’m sure you were all super worried for me. For those who do not follow me on Instagram (why aren’t you? You are so rude!) I’m in Italy, in the north- west, to be precise (Turin), one of the areas that got struck the most by the Coronavirus outbreak. Now, we’ve been in  total lockdown for 3 days and I have to say … it’s awesome! I feel like I’ve died and went straight to introvert-nerd paradise, people! There’s al OST no one around, the city is empty and I can walk around with the dog for hours without meeting anyone, just enjoying the fresh air (no traffic, specially in the city center, where I live) and listening to all the happy birds singing.

Since the lockdown, the level of pollution in Italy has nearly halved. No, seriously. We are cancer to this planet. I know it won’t happen, but the naive child still living inside me hopes that we’ll learn something from this pandemic, to better respect the environment, for instance. Set our priorities right and not living to buy stuff, to make another example. Understand that we’re all equal and stop being so racist and classist and… yeah, sure. Getting back to reality:  besides all the horrendous musical flashmobs from balconies (turned out that “Italians are all good singers” is just a myth), I’m enjoying the silence, the nerdish solitude, the time I have to study and read  (I’m getting another Archeology degree, folks!) and lots, lots of YouTube videos. No, really: There are lots of talented people on YouTube these days, I wasn’t aware of it! By the way, I have plenty of time to edit and proofread your books writers, in case you are writing and need my help, shoot me an email here: louisakleinuk@googlemail.com
