1. Be passionate.
To be a successful blogger, write about your passions, better, your passion. You’ll see that managing a profitable blog takes a lot of work and energy, so you’d better be passionate about your subject, or you’ll quit before you even start! Plus, if you show passion and knowledge of what you’re writing about, you’ll easily get followers and fans. And you’ll actually enjoy working at your blog.
2. Find your niche.
That’s directly connected to the point above. If you’re passionate and knowledgeable about one specific thing, then that’s your niche and you should cultivate it. There are no ‘good’ and ‘bad’ niches, I really want to underline that: There’s a place for everyone in the blogging world as long as you’re passionate, humble and know what you’re talking about, you’ll shine too.
3. Write more.
Stats show that the more often you update your blog, the more traffic it will receive. ALL search engines give higher priority to websites with updated content, so writing more is a no brainer.
4. Promote with social media.
Share each new blog post across your social media networks, especially Twitter and Facebook which, at least according to my experience, are the most responsive when we talk web traffic.
5. Write better titles.
The titles for your blog posts are almost more important than the content itself. That’s because titles help potential readers decide whether they should click and read more. Pay attention to the article titles you see on magazine covers. They entice readers with promises and solutions. When you do the same, your readership will increase.
6. Be as visual as possible.
I used to post a lot of photos here, as my old followers know. Unfortunately, since this blog is currently crippled, I can’t do it for now and my traffic suffered because of it.
There are plenty of multiple studies showing that photos in blog posts boost readership. Photos and pictures in general boosts a post’s visibility and appealing, plus they immediately intrigue the reader, giving her an idea of what the post is about. Another upsides of pics, is that you can also include keywords in the Alt Image tag on the photo, boosting search engine optimization (SEO) for your site. Just remember that you can’t just pull any photo from the web, since you risk violating copyright laws. Instead, locate royalty-free images (there are many sites offering those), subscribe to a stock website or, even better, TAKE YOUR OWN PHOTOS!
7. Incorporate keywords.
Keywords are at the heart of SEO. One of the easiest ways to generate more traffic to your website is to ensure that every page on your site has a keyword strategy. So for each of your post, choose one key sentence that will help readers find that post. Next, incorporate that phrase into the title of the post, the headline on the page, within the content on the page at least two times, in a featured image on the page and also as part of the page link. Keyword concentration helps Google understand what that page is about, which can ultimately lead to more traffic from the search engines.
8. Incorporate links.
When you mention another company’s product or service in a blog post, include a link to that company’s page. Not only does Google like to see outbound links on your site, the company you mention may also notice your post and link back to you. Plus, readers appreciate it when you provide resources to make it easier for them to find the things they’re looking for.
9. Add social sharing buttons.
At the top and bottom of your blog posts, make sure you include social sharing buttons for Twitter, LinkedIn and the other major social networks. Make it easy for readers to spread the word.
10. Retweet past content.
We aren’t all looking at Twitter at the same time, so when you share a new blog post link, the majority of your fan base won’t see it the first time. Repeat your tweets, and don’t be afraid to share past content. Readers don’t care when it was written as long as it’s still relevant.
11. Invite guest contributors.
A great way to boost your google rank, is to have as many external links as possible pointing to your website. This can be achieved quite easily if you exchange guest posts with other contributors. Networking with other bloggers of your niche can be fun and useful, do not underestimate it! Remember, no one’s an island, not even in the virtual blogging world!
