Krista Lakes for Lost in Romance!

by Louisa Klein

1) Why Romance? Did you choose this genre or were you ‘chosen’ by it?
I love Romance readers. One of my best friends in college was an avid
romance reader. She was voracious and loved her books. When I first started
out, I thought of who I wanted my readers to be, and it was her face that
kept popping into my head. I wanted to write books that my friend would
read.

2) Is there a romance author, living or dead, who inspires you
particularly?
I am currently in love with Jill Shalvis and Nadia Simonenko. Two very
different styles, but I love them both. I devour their books!

3) Please, tell us about your latest book and, if you can, about your
future projects.
Well, my current project that I am just finishing up as I write this, is
another installment of the Kisses series (Sandcastle Kisses). I’m also
working on a short little extra for readers of Saltwater Kisses from Jack’s
point of view. That has been a lot of fun to write! I have plans for a
couple more books in the Kisses series and I am actually working on a super
secret project with several other romance authors that I hope will take the
world by storm.

4) How was your writing journey? Was it difficult to find an agent and get
published?
I’m self-published, so finding an agent and publisher was super easy! My
husband handles most of the publishing aspects of my career, so I actually
sleep with my publisher 🙂

5) What’s your opinion about this Ebook revolution?
I love it. Ebooks and self publishing have allowed me to write and get my
books in front of readers and not spend all my time sending out queries to
publishers that probably won’t even read my book. I also am a big fan of
reading Ebooks. As an avid reader, my suitcase used to be full of books for
every trip, and now I can fit hundreds of books on one little device, which
means I can pack more shoes.

6) Nowadays many publishers expect their authors to use Social media a lot
to promote their books. Many authors, on the other hand, would prefer to
write only, without being distracted by digital trivialities: what are
your thoughts?
Promotion is becoming a big part of getting a book out there. I enjoy doing
a little social media, but it does get tedious at times (especially when
I’m on deadline!) However, I love my fans and I adore the fact that I get
to interact with them. I have gotten so many great little ideas to add to
stories because readers told me they loved a certain part of a book in
general conversation. I love being able to get feedback from readers as I
write. I just make sure to have a specified amount of time each day that I
devote to social media, otherwise I would get sucked into it and would
never write anything!

Thank you for supporting an indie author. Anything you can do, whether it be writing a review, or even simply telling a fellow reader that you enjoyed this, helps keep my baby in diapers. Thanks!
