1) So, last year you were spreading the word (successfully) about your
indie books and building a faithful audience. Then, something amazing
happened and suddenly you got an amazing agent and became a New York
Times best-selling author: tell us all about it!
Well, I always knew I wanted to branch into adult fiction and I had a concept for a contemporary romance waiting on the sidelines until I’d completed my young adult series. However, after Fifty Shades and the Crossfire novels blew the genre up, I realized it made more sense to put aside my current projects and work on my contemporary romance. I released On Dublin Street on August 31st 2012 and as it climbed its way to #1 on the Amazon Kindle chart in the U.S. I found myself an awesome agent and was approached by Penguin, and they were amazingly enthusiastic about publishing the book and its sequel. I owe so much of it to my older readers who took the transition from young adult to adult with me. So thank you!
2) In a sentence, tell us why we should buy your book!
Because it’s an epic, hot romance between a fiery, fiercely independent heroine and a charismatic, persistent, alpha male hero.
3) What made you switch to Romance for adults, after have written
(awesome) fantasy books for young adults?
I’d been itching for a long time to branch into adult fiction and after discovering my own love for contemporary romance in 2011, I thought it might be a great place to start. Not only did I look forward to the challenge of creating characters who were authentic and compelling enough to drive an entire plot, but I looked forward to writing without the limitations and boundaries that surround young adult writing.
4) tell us all about your agent and how you got her!
My agent is the amazingly fantabulous Lauren E. Abramo at Dystel & Goderich Literary Management. I’d been approached by a few other agents from different agencies so that gave me the courage to approach the agency I’d always dreamed of being contracted to. DGLM have a wonderful reputation for working well with indies, so I tracked down Lauren, who I knew worked with some great contemporary romance writers, and I sent her On Dublin Street. Thankfully, she loved it and the rest is history!
5) Last but not least, are there any future projects we should be excited
Down London Road, is a companion novel to On Dublin Street. It’s the second book in the series and it follows the love lives of Johanna Walker and Cameron MacCabe. It’s out May 7th in the U.S. and readers won’t want to miss Jo’s story. It’s epic!
