Sixteen Warwickshire libraries are to going to close and others are facing cuts in opening hours, as library campaigner Alan Gibbons calls for a “moratorium” on library closures.

Warwickshire County Council announced it was going to shut down almost half of the county’s 34 “unsustainable” libraries yesterday [2nd February] under £2m savings plans after government funding cuts.

Nine of the libraries are in the north of county, including Bulkington, Keresley and Hartshill, the Coventry Telegraph reports. Other libraries are to undergo reductions in opening hours. We’d like to remind our readers what a priceless service libraries provide to those who don’t have an income which allow them to buy books all the time; the Lost in Fiction team would also like to encourage its readers and everyone who cares to protest against these unacceptable cuts.
