"Tangle", a long-haired Disney classic

by Louisa Klein

Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore) is a frustrated teenager up in her tower, having to tolerate the laughing, faux-loving tyranny of the witch she thinks is her mother. The said witch is a manipulative, selfish woman who wants Rapunzel all her for herself, since the girl’s golden hair has the power to keep anyone young and healthy for ever.
The day of the Rapunzel’s eighteenth birthday, finally an unconventional rescuer comes: his name is
Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) and he’s the kingdom’s most wanted-and most charming-bandit, a dashing if vain man, whom she detains and generally bamboozles with her hair, setting us up for an opposites-attract love story that clicks just perfectly.
Our girl, looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, bravely strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an amazing adventure, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs with a passion for soft music and interior design.
The only disappointing thing is Alan Menken’s soundtrack but, even though “Tangled” is no Whole New World, it;s nevertheless a story of adventure, heart, humour and hair-lots of hair, almost an old-fashioned traditional Disney animation, sticking firmly to the fairytale genre and not trying to include popular culture references.
